VIJF DECENNIA ARCHITECTUUR BIJ BINST ARCHITECTS

Al meer dan vijf decennia is BINST ARCHITECTS een baken van innovatie en excellentie in de Belgische architectuur. Sinds de oprichting in 1973 heeft ons bureau zich continu ontwikkeld, grenzen verlegd en zich aangepast aan nieuwe uitdagingen. Jaar na jaar scherpen we onze vaardigheden aan en blijven we trouw aan onze kernwaarden: creativiteit, samenwerking en uitzonderlijk design.

VIJF DECENNIA

BINST ARCHITECTS viert vijf decennia architecturale excellentie, vanaf de oprichting door Jo Crepain in 1973 tot de prominente positie die het bureau vandaag inneemt. In deze periode kende het bureau zowel mijlpalen als onvoorziene uitdagingen, zoals de vroege fusie in 2005 tot ‘CREPAIN BINST ARCHITECTURE’ en het tragische verlies van Jo Crepain in 2008. De vastgoedcrisis in Nederland stelde de veerkracht van het bureau verder op de proef. Toch slaagde BINST ARCHITECTS erin deze uitdagingen te overwinnen onder het motto ‘Experience meets Innovation’, wat de positie op de Belgische markt verder verstevigde.
De veerkracht van het bureau werd onderstreept in 2015, tijdens de viering van het 10-jarig jubileum van CREPAIN BINST ARCHITECTURE, gemarkeerd door de publicatie van de monografie UNITED (Lannoo). In datzelfde jaar ontstond het plan om te verhuizen, wat leidde tot de ontdekking van een leegstaand pakhuis in de bruisende Antwerpse wijk ‘t Zuid. In de herfst van 2018 verhuisde BINST ARCHITECTS naar deze nieuwe locatie, waarmee het zijn naam volledig vestigde als BINST ARCHITECTS.

EEN NIEUW HOOFDKWARTIER IN HET HART VAN ANTWERPEN

Gelegen in het culturele centrum van Antwerpen, biedt de nieuwe locatie nabijheid tot toonaangevende musea en weerspiegelt het bureau’s toewijding aan creativiteit en vernieuwing. De continue transformatie van de omgeving, met projecten zoals de heraanleg van de Scheldekaaien en de ontwikkeling van het park op de Gedempte Zuiderdokken, sluit naadloos aan bij de visie van BINST ARCHITECTS. Het hoofdkwartier in de Luikstraat belichaamt de samensmelting van architectuur en kunst, een blijvende erfenis van het bureau.

OPEN ADRES ‘B7’

Parallel aan de verhuis lanceerde het bureau ‘B7’, een platform dat samenwerking en kennisuitwisseling binnen de bouwsector stimuleert. Dit initiatief, met wekelijkse presentaties door sectorpartners, bevordert zowel interne samenhang als externe relaties. Door een ‘inclusieve totaalaanpak’ te omarmen, bouwt BINST ARCHITECTS aan een gemeenschap van gelijkgestemde professionals, gericht op de vooruitgang van de architectuursector.

EEN NIEUWE AANPAK

De daaropvolgende jaren stonden in het teken van een hernieuwde focus op stedenbouwkundige haalbaarheidsstudies en wedstrijden, wat de basis legde voor verdere groei. Het personeelsbestand groeide gestaag tot 65 medewerkers, die samen een dynamisch en flexibel team vormen. Met een gepersonaliseerde aanpak streeft BINST ARCHITECTS naar toegankelijkheid en responsiviteit, wat het bureau onderscheidt op zowel nationaal als internationaal niveau.
Opvallende successen in grootschalige competities onderstrepen het streven naar kwaliteit en innovatie, wat leidt tot erkenning binnen de internationale architectuurgemeenschap.

VERBINDING

Binnen een steeds veranderende regelgeving en technologische vooruitgang benadrukt BINST ARCHITECTS het belang van samenwerking en aanpassingsvermogen. De ‘roaring twenties’ van de Belgische bouwsector vereisen een holistische aanpak die de traditionele grenzen overstijgt. M.E.E. IS MEER

Intern richten we ons op Methodiek, Educatie en Engagement (M.E.E.), wat leidt tot verbeterde projectefficiëntie en teamcohesie. Dit integrale proces versterkt niet alleen de interne werking, maar stimuleert ook de professionele ontwikkeling van alle medewerkers.

ARCHITECTUUR

Bij BINST ARCHITECTS ligt de nadruk op Architectuur en Ambitie, wat zich vertaalt in een niet-aflatende toewijding om uitzonderlijke resultaten te leveren. Onze architecturale aanpak is gebaseerd op een op maat gemaakte ontwerpstrategie, geworteld in een macro-analyse, resulterend in een verfijnde visuele taal die de essentie van elk ontwerp vastlegt.
Door nauwe samenwerking met onze B brand design unit en de integratie van kunst via B scene, maken we ons architecturaal DNA en conceptuele tools steeds zichtbaarder. Onze multidisciplinaire werkwijze omvat stedenbouw, architectuur en interieurontwerp, die elkaar wederzijds versterken om hoogwaardige, professioneel uitgevoerde projecten te realiseren.
Dit interdisciplinair denken wordt verder uitgediept in onze publicaties, waarin we innovatieve concepten zoals ‘architecture meets fashion’ verkennen en de creatieve kracht van cross-disciplinaire samenwerking aantonen.

For over five decades, BINST ARCHITECTS has been a beacon of innovation and excellence in Belgian architecture. Since its founding in 1973, the firm has continuously evolved, pushed boundaries, and adapted to new challenges. Year after year, we refine our skills while staying true to our core values: creativity, collaboration, and exceptional design.

FIVE DECADES

BINST ARCHITECTS celebrates five decades of architectural excellence—from its foundation by Jo Crepain in 1973 to the leading position the firm holds today. Over the years, the studio has experienced both milestones and unforeseen challenges, including the 2005 merger into ‘CREPAIN BINST ARCHITECTURE’ and the tragic loss of Jo Crepain in 2008. The real estate crisis in the Netherlands further tested the firm’s resilience. Yet, BINST ARCHITECTS managed to overcome these obstacles under the motto “Experience meets Innovation,” further reinforcing its role in the Belgian market.
The firm’s resilience was reaffirmed in 2015, during the celebration of CREPAIN BINST ARCHITECTURE’s 10th anniversary, marked by the publication of the monograph UNITED (Lannoo). That same year, plans for relocation were initiated, eventually leading to the discovery of a vacant warehouse in Antwerp’s vibrant ‘t Zuid district. In the fall of 2018, BINST ARCHITECTS moved into this new location, officially continuing under the name BINST ARCHITECTS.

A NEW HEADQUARTERS IN THE HEART OF ANTWERP

Situated in Antwerp’s cultural center, the new headquarters offers proximity to leading museums and reflects the firm’s ongoing dedication to creativity and renewal. The continuous transformation of the surrounding neighborhood—with projects such as the redevelopment of the Scheldt quays and the creation of the park on the former Zuiderdokken—seamlessly aligns with the firm’s vision. The Luikstraat headquarters embodies the synthesis of architecture and art, forming a lasting legacy for the studio.

OPEN ADDRESS ‘B7’

In parallel with the move, the firm launched ‘B7’—a platform designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange within the construction sector. This initiative, featuring weekly presentations by industry partners, promotes both internal cohesion and external relationships. By embracing an “inclusive total approach,” BINST ARCHITECTS cultivates a community of like-minded professionals focused on advancing the field of architecture.

A NEW APPROACH

The following years were marked by a renewed focus on urban feasibility studies and design competitions, laying the groundwork for further growth. The team steadily expanded to 65 employees, forming a dynamic and flexible studio. With a personalized approach, BINST ARCHITECTS emphasizes accessibility and responsiveness—qualities that distinguish the practice on both national and international levels.
Remarkable successes in large-scale competitions underscore the firm’s pursuit of quality and innovation, leading to recognition within the international architectural community.
